John F. Modlin, MD is one of my third cousins! Our common ancestor is Elias Modlin 1823-1864 who died in a civil war battle. He was stationed on the far end of the formation and when the retreat was sounded he didn't move out fast enough. He was fighting for the Union. I track down as many people as I can with the Modlin/Maudlin surname and it amazes me that they are all related. Well, I have to make an exception for a few folks with the Modlin name who came over from Poland. Otherwise, when I trace the Modlin/Maudlin people back, they all come from Pasquotank County, North Carolina and they are Quakers (who keep a good record of their members.) The Modlin/Maudlin family comes from England.
